maximize the life of the lithium battery keep the radio

conn ected to a 'live' AC outlet at all times.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

live in the Eas tern Time zone, t here' s nothi ng e lse to do. Your clock is set corre ctly

and ru nning .

If you do not l ive in t h e E a stern Time zone you must change t h e d e f a u lt z o n e

display to your own zone. You only do this one time and the will rememberSmart Set

the ne w d efaul t zone sett ing a nd will a l wa y s r eturn to tha t set t in g a fte r a p o wer

inte rruption.

Adjusting Th e Wake Up Times

Selecti ng The Alarm Wee k Mode

Some p eople like to se t their clocks 5 t o 10 minu te s fast to make sure that th ey will

always be on time. Even though the SmartSet sets the time by itself, you still have

the option of a djust ing the time man ually if you wish.

To ma nu ally adjust t he time di sp lay depress and hold th e but ton , and pressTIME

eith er the or b uttons to a djust the time display ahe ad or ba ck as d esired.SET + -

Ea ch press of the or bu tton s will change the d isplay by on e min ute . I f y ouSET + -

hold the or but t on s t h e d is p la y wil l c o ntinu e to c h ange. The d isplay willS ET + -

chan ge slow ly at first, one minute at a ti me. But i f you con tinue holding the orSET +

- butt ons the displa y will ch ange rapidly.

NOTE: If y ou ma n uall y a d j u st t h e t i me, your n ew s e t t ing i s e n t e re d int o th e

Sma rtSet me m o ry. I f t h e p o wer i s inte rrupted, t h e disp l a y w ill return to your

new se tting , not the o rigin al setting, wh en the powe r is rest ored.

You r SmartSe t clock rad io has two sep a ra t e a l arm s t ha t can b e se t and use d

inde pende ntly. You may use the ala rms to wa ke two peo ple at diffe rent time s, or

yo u may use one alarm for week days an d t he ot he r for week end wake u p ti me s.

NOTE: Be sure th at yo u h ave set th e wake u p time c orrectl y by o bserv in g the AM

indicator. If the AM in dicat or is 'On ' t he wake up time is "AM". If the AM ind icato r is

'Off ', the wa ke up time is "PM".

4.) When the desired wa ke up time (AM or PM) appears o n the display, release t he

or setting butt on s.ALARM 1 ALARM 2

Your SmartSet c lock ra dio allows you t o select from among thr ee different alarm

oper ation modes fo r eithe r alarm. The a larm mo des are :

Listening To The Radio

• it shows “1-7”, the Everyday mode is selected.

If it shows “1-5”, the Weekdays only mode is selected .•

If it shows “6-7”, the Weekends only mode is selected.•

Whenever you want to check the wake up time or the alarm mode settings, simp ly

from corre ct time to wake up time and the indica tors will show youDAY OF WEEK

the alarm mode which is currently selected.

Release the or setting buttons to return to correct time.ALARM 1 ALARM 2

1.) Press t he butt on t o turn the radio 'O n'. The fre quency of theRADI O O N/O FF

tuning frequency will show for a few seconds on the display.

2.) Set the by pressing button to o r as the desired, it toggles BAND AM FMBAND

each time you press the button.BAND

3.) Set the by pressing or to a level that is neitherVOLUME VOLUME + VOLUME -

too high nor too inaudible.

4.) Select your desired station with the control.TUNING

a) Press or slightly, t he rece iving frequen cy will increment o r TUNE + TUNE -

decrement by one step.

b) Press a n d ho ld or fo r one second t he n release, Auto Sta t ion TUNE + TUNE -

Seeking will be engaged, the rece iving f requency will increment or d ecrement

automatically until a station with acceptable reception is found.

5.) Adjust the control to the desired setting.VOLUME

6.) When you are finishe d list ening, press the button to turn theRADIO O N/O FF

radio 'Off'.

When you have a few favorite radio stations to listen to you, maylike to save them,

and pick one out of them in a few seconds without needing to search it each time.

Our digital tuning technology allows you to do this easily by following the following

steps:

Checking The Wake Up Times And Alarm Mode

Recalling Station from the Memory

1.) Make sure the radio is ON and the AM FM band is selected / .

2. Tune to the desired station by the TUNING control as described) .

3.) Press , "P XX" blinks indicating the memory location to store the , STORE

currently listening station.

4.) While "P XX" is blinking press or can change the , memoryTUNE TUNE + –

location from 1 through 10 For e.g "P 03" mea ns the curren t listening . .,

station is about to stored into the 3rd location of the memory.

5.) After deciding the memory location, press again, the currently listening STORE

. station is stored

6.) The display will turn to the frequency of the stations afterwards and after ,

, . a few seconds the correct time shows

1.) Make sure the radio is ON and the AM FM band is selected / .

2. Press) MEMORY , "P XX" shows on the display, and the station according to the

.memory location is tuned

3.) While "P XX" is showing on the display, press or can change TUNE + TUNE –

the memory location from 1 through 10, and the station stored in the location

is tuned once the location is changed to .

4.) The display will turn to the frequency of the stations afterwards , and after a

few seconds the correct time shows, .

AM - The AM bar antenna is inside the cabinet. If AM reception is weak, change

the position of cabinet until the internal antenna picks up the strongest signal.

FM - . The FM antenna is built in to the Line co rd connec ting th e AC adapter

If FM reception is weak try Varying the position and direction of the Line cord

.until you find the strongest signal

NOTE: Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 have different buzzer sounds.

• • Alarm 1 is a Single beep" sound. "Alarm 2 is a "Double beep" sound.

1 .) Re confirm the wake up time and ala rm mode sett ings fo r the alarm you are

using, Alarm 1,Alarm 2, or both alarms.

2.) Press or but ton slightly, and repeat doing so if nece ssary,ALARM 1 ALARM 2

until or indicator is lit on the display.ALARM 1 "BUZZER" ALARM 2 "BUZZER"

3.) At the selec ted wa ke up time the buzzer will sound. It will continu e f or one

hour and then shut off automatically.

4.) To stop the buzzer soo ner, press the b utton. The buzzer will RADI O O N/O FF

stop but the ala rm remains set and will turn the buzze r on again a t th e same

You may also set one alarm for wake to and the other for wake to . RADIO BUZZER

Just press the ALARM 1 and ALARM 2 buttons to the desired status as shown on the

ALARM indicators.

Aft er the alarm turn s ' On' in the morning you can butt on on SNOOZE /SLEEP O FF

the top cabinet for a few extra minutes sleep. The corresponding ALARM indicator

will flash. The alarm will stop for approximately 9 minutes and then comes 'On' again.

The Snooze operation may be repeated several times if desired but after one hour

the alarm will not come on again.

You can program the sleep timer to play the radio for up to 90 minutes and then shut

'Off' automatically.

1.) Press the button.The display will brieflySLEEP

show " " and the radio will begin to play.10

After 10 minutes countdown the radio will shut

off a uto matically. Each time you press the button the sleep timer will SLEEP

start at 10 minutes. This is the sleep timer default setting.

2.) To incre a se or d ecrea se the amo u n t of time that the rad io will play before

shuttin g off, hold the b utton and pres s either the o r button toSLEEP SET + -

change the display to the desired sleep time, up to a maximum of "90" minutes

or a minimum of " " minutes.02

NOTE: When you change the sleep timer from the 10 minute default setting to a

differe nt settin g, the new set ting becomes the defa ult setting . When eve r you

activate the sleep timer it will begin with your new default setting and count down

to zero from that point.

3.) To ca ncel the slee p t imer before it counts down to '00' and shut the radio 'Off'

immediately, press the Bar.SNOOZE/SLEEP OFF

Changing The L ithium Battery

IMPO RTANT: Remember that the sta t ion and volume settings you choose f o r

th e Sleep To Mu sic op e ratio n are the same set t ings you will hear if you set the

alarm for Wake To Radio the following morning.

Like a ll batt eries, eventu ally the built in lith ium battery will need to be replace d. A

number o f factors, such as, the length of time b e t ween the d a te the ra d io was

manufactured and the date you plugged it in for the first time determine the amount

of time before replacement. During this initial storage period, the lithium battery is

IMPORTANT NOTE

Resetting The Clock After A Total Memory Loss

If you do not chan ge the built in lithium battery with in a reason able p eriod of time

after you see the warning indicator, the lithium battery may become exhausted

a n d w i l l n o l o n g e r b e a b l e t o s u p p l y b a c k u p p o w e r t o t h e S m a r t S e t

internal comp ute r. If the unit is disconnected from the AC outlet after the bat tery

is exhaust ed o r if a power interruption o ccurs, the SmartSe t memory will be lost

and the clock will need to be reset when the power is restored.

Be sure to install a fresh lit hium batt ery befo re you reset the clock, oth erwise the

clock will need to be reset each time the power is interrupted.

The initial default setting is "12:00 AM, Sunday , January 1st (1. 1), 2012".

If you notice that the time on your SmartSet clock ra dio is comp letely inco rre ct,

and the DAY OF WEEK MONTH/DATE indicator is also wrong, press the button to

see the date.

If the date display is showing " " (January 1st), 1. 1

you p robably e xperie nced a total memory loss.

To reset the clock after a total memory loss, proceed

as follows:

1 .) Follow the instructions on page 10,11 and install a new lithium batteryCR2032

in the battery compartment.

2.) Connect the radio to your AC outlet and let the clock set itself.

3.) Depress the and buttons together. The display will changeMONTH/DATE TIME

from 'Time' to 'Year'.

button to set the display to the correct year, then release the buttons.

4.) Depr ess the b u tton. The d ispla y will ch an ge from ' Time ' M ON T H/DATE

t o 'Month/Date' (MM/DD).

While holding in the MONTH/DATE button, press the SET + button to set the display

to the correct Month and Date. The DAY OF WEEK indicator will change automatically

as you adjust the Month/Date settings. When the correct Month and Date appear

on the display, release the buttons.

5.) Depress the button and the button to set the display to the correctTIME SET +

Time . Be sure to confirm that you have set the time correct ly to 'AM' or 'PM'

b y observing the indicator.AM

6.) Afte r you set the Time , reconfirm that the Day, and Mon th/ Date displays are

still correct. Make final adjustments if necessary.

The SmartSet clock memory is now reset and the new lithium battery will maintain

it for the ne xt 5 to 8 years, dependin g o n th e nu mber and dura t ion of the power

outage s you experience.

mode settings, and sleep timer settings as well.

Emerson Radio Corp. warrants this product to be free from manufacturing defects in

original material, including original parts, and workmanship under normal home use

and conditions (“manufacturing defect”) for a period of ninety (90) days from date of

origin al purchase in, and if used in the United States. Should service be necessary

under this warranty, Emerson will provide the following at our Return Repair Facility

provided the manufacturing defect is verified along with the date of purchase:

your household outlet supplies the power, and the battery is not being used. A fresh

lithium battery can supply power to the SmartSet computer for at least 3 years even

if it is never connected to an AC power supply. If your clock radio was connected to

your AC supply within a few months after it was manufactured, and you experience

only the normal, nuisance type, short duration power interruptions, your battery may

last for up to 5 years or even longer.

When the battery power drops below a certain level the, LOW BATT.indicator

will 'Flash'. When you see this indicator, you should change the battery as soon as

it is convenient for you to do so. To change the battery proceed as follows:

1.) Purchase a replacement 3V lithiu m battery wherever batteries are sold . The

battery type is or equivalent.CR2032

2.) Remove the battery from its package so it is ready to install.

IMPORTANT: Leave the AC adapter connected to your AC outlet.

3.) Turn the radio face up and use a small screw driver to remove the screw securing

the battery holder to the cabinet.

4. ) Remove the original battery from the holder and insert the new battery into the

holder the same way, observing the positive (+) direction. Slide the holder with

the new battery back into the slot in the cabinet.

5.) Replace the screw that secures the battery holder in the cabinet.

6.) Turn the radio right side up and confirm that the LOW BATT indicator is 'Off'.

7.) Save these instructions. You'll have to do this again five to eight years from Now!

WARNING: DANGER OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS INCORRECTLY REPLACED.

REPLACE ONLY WITH THE SAME OR EQUIVALENT TYPE.
