The Extron MVC 121 xi is a compact, three input stereo audio mixer
featuring a digital signal processing (DSP) platform for audio signal mixing
and control. The device features two mono mic/line inputs and one stereo
line-level input, each of which may be processed by a 5-band digital EQ
before being routed to a stereo mix bus. The audio DSP engine allows
for equalization of each input as well as control over the gain, mute,
and routing with quick and intuitive conguration provided by the Extron
DSP Congurator Pro. This guide provides quick start instructions for an
experienced installer to set up and operate the MVC 121 xi.

1. Disconnect power from all equipment.
2. (Optional) using optional Extron mounting brackets Mount the unit to a rack or furniture
and accessories (see www.extron.com to determine which optional mounting accessories
are compatible).
3. Connect the audio inputs.
Connect up to two balanced or unbalanced mono mic/line level input devices to the
MIC/LINE inputs (see , gure 1 C and the right image for wiring details). Alternatively,
two 3-pole connectors may be used.

Connect a single stereo line-level output device
(balanced or unbalanced) to the stereo input LINE
(see gure 1, D and the right image for wiring details).
4. Connect the audio outputs.
The VARIABLE stereo output may be used to drive
the input of balanced or unbalanced stereo line-level
equipment. The output level of the output VARIABLE
is controlled by the front panel volume encoder (see
gure 1, E and the right image for wiring details).
Connect an amplier to the VARIABLE output.

The FIXED stereo output may be used to drive the input of balanced or unbalanced stereo line-level equipment. The output level
of the output is not controlled by the front panel volume encoder (see , FIXED gure 1 F and the image above for wiring details).
Connect the input of an Assistive Listening Systems (ALS) transmitter or recording equipment to the output.FIXED
5. Connect the digital input. Up to four congurable input ports and a +5 V
convenience port allow connection to various external switches and sensors for
remote triggering of functions within the device (see , gure 1 G and the right
image for wiring details).
The +5 VDC power pin is intended to provide power for illuminated switches
used to control the digital input. The maximum current draw is 150 mA.
Do not tin the wires!

6. Connect a control device. Connect a host device, such as a computer, to one of the following ports to congure and control the
device via Simple Instruction Set (SIS ) commands or DSP Congurator Pro.
RS-232 port (rear panel) — Connect a host device to this the 3-pole 3.5mm
captive screw port (see ,
gure1 H on page 1). The default baud rate is 38400,
1 stop bit, no parity, 8 data bits, and no ow control (see the right image for wiring
details).
Configuration port (front panel) — See ‘Front Panel Features.’

7. The reset button (I) initiates two levels of resets. Use a pointed
stylus, ballpoint pen, or small screwdriver to access the recessed
button (see the MVC 121 xi User Guide for details on the di󰀨erent
reset modes). The green power LED indicates the selected reset
mode.
8. Connect power to the device by connecting the included 12 VDC
external power supply to the rear panel power port (see A and the
power supply wiring on the right).

To adjust the mix-point gain, press the desired control button once. Rotate the volume encoder ( D) within 10 seconds.
To adjust the analog input gain, press and hold the desired control button. Rotate the volume encoder while the button is held
down.
The LED of the pressed button lights to indicate the selected input.
NOTES:
See the for details on the secondary and tertiary control targets.MVC 121 xi User Guide

C Volume indicator After 10 seconds of control inactivity, the 8-segment LED display returns to metering the signal intensity. As the
signal increases or decreases, the LED indicator bar lights from the bottom to the top to indicate the current output level.
D Volume encoder
If no control buttons (B) are pressed, rotating the encoder clockwise increases the output volume of the variable output group.
Rotating the encoder counterclockwise decreases the volume.
If a control button is pressed, a clockwise motion of the encoder increases the mix-point gain value of the selected group and
counterclockwise motions decrease the mix-point gain value of the selected group. If no encoder adjustment is made after 10
seconds, the selected control button is deactivated.
If a control button is pressed and held while adjusting the encoder, the input gain of each source may be adjusted.
E Configuration port — Connect a computer to this USB-C port to configure the device using DSP Configurator Pro. Firmware can be
updated through this port via the Firmware Loader software (see the for details).Firmware Loader Help File

Executive Mode 2 Input-gain ltered. Allows only the mix-points and master volume to be adjusted and is user-denable. This
mode is useful when the end-user requires limited control. and LEDs light to indicate that the mode is selected.MIC-1 MIC-2
NOTES:
While operating in Executive Mode 0, the +48 V phantom power can be enabled or disabled by pressing and holding the MIC-1
or button for 10 seconds. Do not adjust the encoder while holding the buttons.MIC-2
While operating in Executive Mode 1 or 2, the +48 V phantom power cannot be enabled or disabled using the front panel. It can
