orusethem.Afteryouhavenishedreadingthisoperating
guide,storeitinasafeplaceforfuturereference.
• Thenominalimpedanceofthisspeakersystemis6ohms.
Connectthespeakersystemtoastereoamplierwitha
loadimpedanceratingrangingfrom4to6ohms(amodel
with“4-16Ω”displayedonthespeakeroutputterminals).
• Inordertopreventdamagetothespeakersystem
resultingfrominputoverload,pleaseobservethe
followingprecautions:
– Donotsupplypowertothespeakersysteminexcessof
themaximumratedpower.
– Whenconnectingordisconnectingcables,besure
amplierpowerisOFF.
– Donotuseexcessiveampliervolumeifusingagraphic
equalizertoemphasizehighorlowfrequencies.

BEFORE USE
CONNECTING YOUR SYSTEM
IMPORTANT:Makesureallequipmentisturnedoffbefore
makinganyconnections.Correctwiringofyourcompact
speakersisessentialforachievingthebestsoundquality.Be
carefultoensureproperpolarityofconnection.Werecom-
mendaminimumof18gaugeforrunsupto25feet,and
thickerforlongerruns.
Mostcompactspeakercableiscodedtoeasethistask.Typi-
callytheribbedorstripedside,orthesidewiththeconnector
markedinredorwhite,isconnectedtothepositive(red)
terminal.Makesurethattheamplierpositive(red)terminalis
connectedtothecompactspeakerpositive(red)terminal,and
thattheampliernegative(black)terminalisconnectedtothe
compactspeakernegative(black)terminal.
Ifthewiresyou’reusingarenotalreadyterminatedwithbanana
plugs,spadelugs,etc.,stripoff½”ofinsulationfromtheends
ofthecable,twistthebarestrandsandinsertintothebinding
posts.Takecarethatnostraystrandsofwireshortacross
betweentheterminals.
Connectthecablefromthefrontleftorfrontrightchannel,or
therearleftorrearrightchannel,tothebottomsetofbinding
postsonthespeaker.
IfyouareusingtheheightchanneldriversintheSP-BS22A-LR
forDolbyAtmos®oranothersurroundsoundtechnologywith
heightchannels,connectthecablesforthecorresponding
heightchannel(leftfrontheightchannelofthereceiverorampto
theleftfrontspeaker’sheightchannelinput,rightrearheight
channelofthereceiveroramptotherightrearspeaker,etc.)
asseenbelow.
IMPORTANT:Thetopbindingpostsareforheightchannelsonly.
TheymustbedrivenfromthechannelsonyourDolbyAtmos
enabledreceiverallocatedforheight,andwithbassmanage-
mentengagedthatltersoffanysignalsbelow180Hz.These
extrabidingpostsareNOTintendedfor
biamping.Failuretofollowtheseinstructionsmayresultin
damagetothetopdriversandvoidyourwarranty.

PLACEMENT AND FINE TUNING
Correctplacementofyourspeakersisthemostimportant
thingyoucandotogetthebestpossiblesoundqualityfrom
them.ItisespeciallyimportantwithaDolbyAtmossystem.
Taketimetoexperimentwithpositioningaccordingtothe
guidelinesbelow.
Whetherthespeakersareusedinthefrontorrearsurround
channels,thetweeter(thesmallerdriveronthefrontbafe
ofthespeaker,notthedriveronthetopofthespeaker)
shouldbepositionednearearlevelandthecompactspeakers
separatedadistanceapproximatelyequaltothelisteningdis-
tance.Anglingthecompactspeakersinwardtowardsthe
listenerseatedinthecenterwillimprovetheimagestabilityfor
non-centrallisteners.Closeproximitytoasideorrearwall
willenhancethebassperformance,althoughtooclose(par-
ticularlyacornerlocation)andthebassmaybeunnaturally
highandimageperformancemaybedegraded.Bestresults
willbeobtainedwhenthecompactspeakerisplaced
approximately2feetfromthewall.Ifacornerlocationis
unavoidable,trytopositionthecompactspeakersothat
thedistancetotherearwallisnotequaltothedistancetothe
sidewall.
ThisdiagramshowsSP-BS22A-LRspeakersusedforfront
andrearchannels,inconjunctionwithacenterspeaker
andasubwoofer.WerecommendtheuseofthePioneer
SP-C22centerspeaker,andSW-8MK2subwooferwhich
matchesthesoundoftheSP-BS22A-LR.
