& Safety Guide
Cleaning and Maintenance
The Andrews Sykes Cyclone Dx range of evaporative air conditioners are
designed to give many years of trouble free operation. It is however important that
the simple regular maintenance described in this section is carried out.
Note: Isolate the unit from the power supply before carrying out any form of
maintenance.
At the end of each week
Clean side and back cooling pads and removed dust particles wit a vacuum
cleaner. Clean the outside body with a damp cloth.
At the end of each month
Place a sterilising tablet or a capful of sterilising liquid into a full reservoir and
operate the pump to circulate the sterilised water through the whole system. Drain
the water tank and clean any build up with a dam cloth. To gain access to the
water tank you will need to remove one or more panels.
At the end of summer season
Before storing the unit, drain the water tank and wipe down with a sterilising agent.
Remove the cooling pads and wash using a gentle spray. Then allow them to
completely dry before replacing.

Electrical Safety
Cyclone Dx requires a standard earthed power supply according to your local
mains requirements. An extension cable (a minimum of 1.5mm three core
earthed lead) may be used.
Andrews Sykes recommends the use of a power supply that is protected by
an RCD (residual current operated device). This provides extra safety. Always
inspect the power supply cable and plug for damage before use.
Damaged plugs and powers supply cables must only be replaced by and
authorised repair agent.
Andrews sykes Cyclone Dx evaporative air conditioners are fitted with
thermal cutouts which stop the unit if a pump or fan motor overheats. The
cut-out automatically resets once the motor has cooled.
This unit requires a 230 volt electrical supply. It plugs into a standard BS1363
domestic socket.
Always inspect plugs and leads for damage before plugging into the supply -
DO NOT USE IF ANY DAMAGE IS FOUND
Ensure cables are run as not to cause a hazard.
If an extension lead is used, ensure it is of the correct standard , and fully
uncoiled when being used.
Do not lay electrical cables in wet / damp areas.
Do not move equipment whilst operating.
Do not pull equipment by its cable.

Setting up your Cyclone Dx
The Cyclone Dx model is designed to be placed on the base trolley supplied and
must be kept level to prevent over spill from the water tank. Place the Cyclone Dx
squarely onto the base trolley. Please note that the trolley is not attached to the unit.
To cool a room efficiently the Cyclone Dx requires a continuous supply of fresh
air and therefore should be positioned close to an open window or door to the
outside. It is also important to have another window or a door open for the warm
air to exit. Once positioned in the room, lock the casters to prevent the unit from
moving. Decide upon which method is best suited for filling the water tank.
There are two options, either directlling by connections to a main water supply
or by manual filling via the manual water fill inlet.
Direct Filling
Attach a suitable hose to the auto fill water inlet connector using a worm drive clip.
Double check for sign of water leakage from the connection before connecting the unit
to the power supply. If in doubt, consult a qualified plumber.
There is a float valve inside the water tank, which controls the water flow as necessary.
Manual Filling
CAUTION. Always switch OFF the unit and unplug from the power supply before
manually filling this machine. Mop up all the spillages before switching ON again.
Never handle plugs and electrical switches with wet hands.
To fill the water tank, open the manual water fill inlet and our up to 45 liters of
fresh clean water into the the tank.
The level of water in the tank is displayed on the water level indicator. During
use, the water level should be checked on a regular basis and topped up as
necessary. Never overfill this machine. The Cyclone Dx is now ready to use.
Controls
With the unit in position and the water tank wether filled manually or connected
to a main water supply, plug the unit into a suitable power supply and switch the
supply ON.
The unit can be operated as a cooler or simply as a fan.
To operate as a fan, set the function control and the fans speed control to OFF.
Turn the ON/OFF control to ON, then turn the fans speed control to the required
fan speed setting. There are three fan speeds available Low, Medium or High.
When first switching ON, select Low and wait for the fan to reach normal
running speed. There are two main controls for the direction of air flow. The
two horizontal louver controls are manual controls, which directs the air flow
vertically. The upper level operates the upper half of the air outlet and the lower
lever operates the lower half of the air outlet.
The function selection switch controls the powered deflector, which oscillates
horizontally (side to side) When switched to ‘swing the deflectors move from left
to right in a sweeping motion distributing the air to a wider area.
If the air ow is required in one direction only, switch the air deflector ON and
when the air flow is the right direction, switch the deflector control to OFF.
To run the unit in cool mode, move the function selection switch to ‘cool swing’.
If the deflector is not required move the switch tocool’ only.
When switching the unit OFF, move the function selection switch to OFF and allow
the fan to run for approximately 10 minutes. This enables the cooling pads to dry
and will help eliminate the possibility of a musty odor from the unit when next used.
