Methods of measuring
Oral
Measuring time: 10 seconds approx.
Normal temperature range: 35,5~37,5 °C / 95,9~99,5 °F
Place the sensor under tongue. Sensor tip should touch
the root of tongue, as far end as possibile. Hold the
thermometer in the same spot with your mouth closed.
Do not shift the thermometer during measurement.
Rectal
Measuring time: 10 seconds approx.
Normal temperature range: 36,6~38 °C / 97,9~100,4 °F
This is the most reliable measurement method.
Lubricate the probe with a water soluble jelly for easier
operation. Do not use petroleum jelly. Gently slide the
probe about 1 cm (less the 1/2 inch) into the rectum. If
you detect resistance of any kind, STOP.
Axillary (underarm)
Measuring time: 10~20 seconds approx.
Normal temperature range: 34,7~37,3 °C / 94,5~99,1 °F
Although simpler, the axillary (underarm) method is less
accurate and takes longer time. Before measurement,
make sure the armpit is dry. Place the thermometer into
the person’s armpit with sensor tip pointing upward.
Firmly fold the arm to hold the thermometer in place.
Disinfect the probe only with alcohol or
similar, DO NOT boil it! DO NOT sterilize in autoclave!
Do not dip it in water or liquids!
Avoid exposing the unit to direct sunlight or atmospheric agents.
