Ashortpower-supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from
becoming entangled inor tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may
beused if care is exercised in its use. Ifan extension cord is used, the
electrical rating of the cord must be atleast as great as the electrical rating of
the appliance. Theextension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape
over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped
overunintentionally.

To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one
blade is wider than the other). This plug fits apolarized outlet only one way; if
the plug does not fit fully intothe outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

older children closely.
•Donotoperateorplacethetoaster:
– On non-heat-resistant or flammable surfaces.
– On or near a hot gas or electric burner.
– In a heated oven or microwave oven.
•Toreducetheriskoffireorelectricshock,donotinsert:
– Utensils or foil-covered or oversized foods into the toaster.
– Fingers or metallic utensils into slots when toaster is pluggedin.
•Donotattempttodislodgefoodwhentoasterispluggedin.
•Donotusefoodsthatwilldripcoatingsorfillingswhenheated.
Suchaccumulations inside the toaster create unsanitary conditions andthe
possibility of fire or toaster malfunction. Clean out accumulated crumbs
frequently to avoid risk of fire or toaster malfunction. Donotoperate the toaster
without the crumb tray being replaced initscorrect position.
•Donotoperateanyappliancewithadamagedcordorplugoraftertheappliance
has malfunctioned orhas been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the
nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment.
•Donotusethetoasteroutdoorsorforcommercialpurposes;thisapplianceis
for household use only.
•Usethisapplianceonlyforitsintendeduseasdescribedinthismanual.Do
not use attachments that are notrecommended by the manufacturer; they may
cause injury.
•Afiremayoccuriftoastersarecoveredortouchingflammablematerial,including
curtains, draperies, walls and the like when inoperation.
•Toconnectordisconnectappliance,presscancelbutton.Toastliftlevermustbe
in the normal up position before attaching ordisconnecting the plug from the wall
outlet.

Preparing To Use Your Toaster fortheFirstTime
If you are using your toaster for the first time, please be sure to:
•Removeanystickersfromthesurfaceofthetoasterandwipetheoutsideof
your toaster with a damp cloth.
•InserttheRemovableCrumbTrayintothecrumbtrayslot.
•MakecertainthattheBreadCarriageLeverisintheuppermostposition
before plugging in the toaster’s power cord.
•Selectalocationforthetoaster.Thelocationshouldbe:
 •Aflat,heat-resistant,non-flammablesurface.
 •Atleastthreeinchesawayfromwallsorthebackofcountertops.
 •Atleastonefootawayfromanycabinetorshelvingthatmaybeabovethe
toaster.
 •Awayfromflammablematerials,suchascurtainsandwallfabric.
 •Awayfromagasstoveflameorelectricelement.
•PlugthePowerCordinto120Volt,60HzACoutlet.
Adjusting the Power Cord length:
Retractable Cord Storage allows you to adjust the length of the Power Cord so
that it is the exact length you desire when controls are off and unit is unplugged
and cool.
•Whenretractingthecord,holdtheplugwithonehandandpullthecordaway
from the toaster to retract. Once pulled, hold the plug and allow cord to
retract.
•Thecordreeliscompactformulti-layerretractingofthecord.Incasecordis
not fully rewound, pull out the cord and steer cord evenly on the reel.
•Incasethecordisnotpulledouteasily,pullcordfirmly.
•Donotallowchildrentouseretractablecordfeatureasthecordmaycause
injury.

Inserting the food into the bread slots and toasting:
•Mosttypesofbreadsandpastriescanbetoasted,suchasbagels,tea
cakes, thickly sliced breads, English muffins, etc. Slices should not,
however, be so thick as to jam the bread slots.
•Whentoastingtwoslicesatatime,theslicesshouldbeofequalsizeand
freshness toensure even toasting.
•Whentoastingtwoslicesofbread,placeonesliceinthecenterofeach
bread slot.
•Whentoastingonesliceofbread,placethesliceinthecenterofeither
bread slot.
