IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Thank you for purchasing the new Fluval submersible heater. For a
complete understanding of the heaters operation and capabilities, please
read and follow these instructions.
WARNING To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be
observed, including the following:
1.
READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY
INSTRUCTIONS
. Failure to do so may result in loss of
fish and/or damage to this appliance.
2. Read and observe all the important notices on the appliance.
3. DANGER - To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be
taken since water is employed in the use of this equipment. For each
of the following situations, do not attempt repairs yourself; return the
appliance to an authorized service facility for service or discard the
appliance.
A. Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not
be plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.
Maximum operating depth is 0.9 meters, (2.9 ft). Do not immerse
this heater below the MAX. water level line indicated on the
appliance.
B. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is
malfunctioning or it is dropped or damaged in any manner.
C. To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug or electrical outlet
getting wet, position the appliance
to one side of a wall mounted outlet
to prevent water from dripping onto
the outlet or plug. A drip-loop”
(see ill 1) should be arranged. The
drip-loop” is that part of the cord
below the level of the outlet, or the
connector if an extension cord is
used, to prevent water from traveling
along the cord and coming in contact
with the outlet. If the plug or outlet
does get wet, unplug the DON’T
electrical cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies
power to the appliance, then unplug and examine for presence of
water in the outlet.
D. If the appliance shows any sign of abnormal water leakage,
immediately unplug it from the power source.
4. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children)
with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of
experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision
or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible
for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do
not play with the appliance.
5. To avoid injury, do not contact hot parts.
6. Always unplug an appliance from outlet when not in use, before
putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the Aquarium.
Never yank cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to
disconnect.
7. This is an aquarium heater. Do not use an appliance for other than its
intended use (i.e.: don’t use this heater on swimming pools, garden
ponds, bathrooms, etc.). The use of attachments not recommended or
sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
8. This heater is suitable for use only. Do not install or store the INDOOR
appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures
below freezing.
9. Make sure that the heater is securely installed before operating it.
10. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with proper rating should be
used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than the appliance rating
may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will
not be tripped over or pulled.
11. Never use with an extension cord unless plug can be fully inserted. Do
not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
ENGLISH
12. The power cord of this appliance cannot be replaced; if the cord is
damaged, the appliance should be discarded. Never cut the cord.
13. CAUTION: This or any heater must never be operated outside of
water.
14. (For North America only) This appliance has a polarized plug (one
blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will fit
in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into
the outlet, reverse the plug. If the plug will still not fit fully into the
outlet, contact a qualified electrician to inspect the outlet and make
the needed alterations. Never use with an extension cord unless the
plug can be fully inserted. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
The Fluval P series is an automatic, submersible heater for use in indoor
aquariums. Without any adjustments needed, it is designed to reach and
maintain the set temperature of 24-26 ºC (76-78 ºF). The red indicator light
will illuminate when the heater is in use, and the heater will automatically
shut off when the water temperature reaches 24-26 ºC (76-78 ºF). The
exterior is made of a tough polymer so that it will not crack or break like
traditional glass sleeve heaters.
HEATER PERFORMANCE VARIABLES
This heater was designed to reach and maintain the set temperature of
24-26 ºC (76-78 ºF), provided that the maximum difference between the
ambient and set temperature is greater than 8 ºC (12 ºF). Variables such
as lower room temperature, wide temperature fluctuations, lack of an
aquarium cover, presence of pumps and filters or aquarium placement
in proximity to cooling sources may require a higher wattage for proper
control for the given tank size. If the set temperature is not reached in all
conditions, it will probably be necessary to increase the heating power.
We recommend monitoring aquarium temperature on a regular basis
with a reliable aquarium thermometer.
INSTALLATION
Generally, the heater should be placed at the rear of the aquarium,
preferably close to a source of water movement to ensure even and
thorough distribution of warmed water.
1. Position the heater in the aquarium and press suction cups firmly against
glass or plastic to adhere to the
aquarium wall.
2. Ensure heater remains completely
submersed at all times.
3. Allow heater to acclimatize to the
aquarium water temperature for 10
minutes before plugging it into the
electrical outlet.
MAINTENANCE
CAUTION: Unplug all appliances in the aquarium before placing
hands in the water. Unplug the heater and allow it to cool for at least
30 minutes before taking it out of the water.
Clean the heater regularly to remove deposits that could impair the heater
performance.
Deposits on the heater can be removed by soaking it in vinegar, then
rinsing with fresh water before repositioning it in the aquarium. DO NOT
USE chemical cleaners.
2 YEAR WARRANTY
This product is guaranteed for defects in material or workmanship for a
period of two years from the date of purchase. The guarantee is valid with
proof of purchase only. The guarantee is limited to repair or replacement only
and does not cover consequential loss or damage to animate or inanimate
objects. This guarantee is valid only under normal operating conditions for
which the unit is intended. It excludes any damage caused by unreasonable
use, negligence, improper installation, tampering, abuse or commercial use.
THIS DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR STATUTORY RIGHTS.
