Installing and Operating the Alarm Unit

Congratulations on your purchase of this anti-flood alarm from ! Once you’ve
got the alarm installed, it will provide you with advanced warning of flooding,
spillage, or any other water-based incident, giving you more time to react in an
emergency, and more piece of mind in the mean time.
Some examples of how this alarm could be used include:
Monitoring a basement for flooding•
Detecting overflow in a laundry, bathroom or similar environment•
Warning when a sink or bathtub is about to overfill•
Installation:
The alarm will sound when the sensor is exposed to water, so you should place the
sensor at the level the water will be when you want the alarm to sound. Typically,
this will be just above the level of the floor, but this depends on your needs.
Affix the alarm unit to the wall, using the double-sided tape provided and 1.
simply let the sensor hang down to the level you want the alarm to be sensitive
to.
If there is an exact level of water you want to detect, you can fix the sensor in 2.
place using tape, glue or any other method you wish. Be sure to leave both
electrodes exposed - if water can’t make contact with them both at the same
time then the alarm will not function.
How it works:
The water sensor consists of two small electrodes, mounted on a water resistant
cable. These two electrodes on the sensor will detect the small increase in
conductivity which occurs if they are exposed to water.
The electrodes use a very low current, and are harmless.
Remember that the sensor doesn’t need to be fully immersed in water to be
triggered. Simply being sufficiently wet (such as being exposed to rain or particularly
moist environments) can provide enough conductivity to trigger the sensor, as can
the electrodes touching metal or other conductive materials.
We suggest, therefore, that mounting the sensor somewhere under cover (or at
least somewhat sheltered) is the most practicable option. Places such as a basement
or underneath floorboards can be a good option, as the alarm will notify you
before your home floods!
