OVERVIEW
This device is an electronic daily timer thermostat with an
ample backlit display for showing the room temperature
reading or current time, as desired.
The room temperature can be set in the Heating or Cooling
mode on two different levels: Comfort and Economy.
In addition, the device offers the option of setting the
Antifreeze temperature and adjusting the Offset value.
SYMBOL KEY
During standard operation, symbols appear on the display
indicating the operating status of the timer thermostat.
INSTALLATION
The device can be installed by mounting in a standard
recessed 3-module 503E box.
Carry out the following steps to install the device:
•
Remove the timer thermostat body by pulling the
relevant tab, see Fig. 2.
•
Make the electrical connections with the terminal board
coupled inside the bottom of the timer thermostat. Follow
the connection layout in Fig. 3.
•
Insert the batteries in the compartment. See paragraph
'Replacing batteries’.
•
Choose the type of support that you wish to use. If
needed, adapt it to the type of plate being used. See
paragraph 'Plate support’.
•
Fix the support to the bottom of the timer thermostat and
fasten it to the wall inside the 3-module flush connection
boxes using the screws included.
•
Apply the relative finishing plate.
•
Insert the timer thermostat body at the bottom.
The timer thermostat must be positioned about 1.5 m
above floor level, away from sources of heat, doors and
windows.
STARTING
When operating the device for the first time:
Insert the batteries, see paragraph 'Replacing batteries'.
Reset the device by inserting a pointed implement through
the hole provided; DO NOT USE NEEDLES.
Setting the current time
To set the timer thermostat clock carry out the following
steps:
•
Press the ' ' button for at least 2 seconds; the hour OK
digits will flash.
•
Set the hour using ' + ' and ' - ' buttons.
•
Confirm with ' '; the minute digits will start to flash. OK
•
Set the minutes using ' + ' and ' - ' buttons.
•
Confirm with ' '. OK
•
It automatically exits time setting.
Setting the heating / cooling modes
This setting allows you to invert the operation logic of the
relay depending on whether a heating or cooling device is
being controlled.
In order to modify the operation logic, carry out the following
procedure:
•
Press the ' ' button for at least 10 seconds.
A. If the timer thermostat was previously set at cooling, it
will be set at heating mode. The symbol ' ' (Flame) will
flash on the display for 8 seconds.
B. If the timer thermostat was previously set at heating, it
will be set at cooling mode. The symbol ' ' (Fan) will
flash on the display for 8 seconds.
The default setting is heating mode.
Setting the Comfort and Economy modes
The timer thermostat has 24 switches (Fig. 1), situated
above the display, for programming operation in the
‘Comfort’ or ‘Economy’ modes at different times of the day.
When you want the timer thermostat to operate in the
comfort mode, for example during the daytime, move all the
switches corresponding to the desired time interval
upwards.
If you want the timer thermostat to operate in the economy
mode, for example during the night time, just move all of the
switches corresponding to the desired time downwards.
Use the tool included in the supply to facilitate switch
activation.
In this case it is sufficient to remember the following rule:
Switches up: The comfort setting is enabled in the
automatic operating mode.
Switches down: The economy/night comfort setting is
enabled in the automatic operating mode.
Each switch corresponds to the interval falling between the
times printed to the left and right of the switch itself.
For example, note that the time interval from 00 to 05 is
controlled by a single switch, whereas from 05 to 09 in the
morning settings can be made at half-hour intervals. For the
rest of the day, the selectable time intervals are one hour
each (Fig. 1).
The Comfort temperature is set by ' + ' and ' - ' buttons.
The SetPoint will appear on the display and the symbol
' ' will flash.
The Economy temperature is set by ' + ' and ' - ' buttons.
The SetPoint will appear on the display and the symbol
' ' will flash.
Normally, in order to have a reduced temperature at night
time, the economy temperature must be below the comfort
temperature.
Setting Antifreeze temperature
The Antifreeze function allows you to select a minimum
room temperature which will be maintained when the timer
thermostat is
off, in order to preserve the ambient and the system should
the room temperature fall below the set value.
The default factory antifreeze setting is +3°C.
The function will be enabled only if the device has been set
in the Heating mode.
To adjust the Antifreeze temperature carry out the following
steps:
•
Press the ' ' button and keep it pressed form more
than 20 seconds;
•
The display will show 'X.X°C' alternated with 'X.X°
1' (where X.X stands for the antifreeze temperature);
•
Press ' + ' and ' - ' buttons to change the value;
•
Pressing the ' ' button again will switch the device
over to the Offset temperature setting mode (see
paragraph 'Setting the Offset temperature);
•
If you press ‘ ’ or let more than 10 seconds pass OK
without pressing;
•
any key, the device will exit the ‘Antifreeze temperature
setting’;

Setting the Offset temperature
With this parameter it is possible to correct the temperature
sensed by the device by ±5°C in order to correct systematic
reading errors due to positioning of the timer thermostat in
areas unable to detect the room temperature. The default
Offset temperature setting is 0°C.
To adjust the Offset temperature carry out the following
steps:
•
Press the ' ' button for more than 20 seconds;
•
The display will show 'X.X°C' alternated by 'X.X°
1' (where X.X stands for the Antifreeze temperature).
•
Press the ' ' button again.
•
The display will show 'X.X°C' alternated by 'X.X°
2' (where X.X stands for the Offset temperature).
•
Press the ' + ' and ' - ' buttons to change the value.
•
Pressing the ' ' button again will switch the device
over to the Antifreeze temperature setting mode (see
paragraph 'Setting Antifreeze temperature).
•
If you press ‘ ’ or let more than 10 seconds pass OK
without pressing any key, the device will exit the ‘Offset
temperature setting’
•
mode and store the set value.
SHUTDOWN - ANTI-FREEZE FUNCTION
To switch off the timer thermostat press ' '.
The display will show the word ‘OFF’ and the ' ' symbol.
If the timer thermostat was set in the heating mode, the
antifreeze function will be enabled and the ' ' symbol; in
such a case the room temperature will be controlled
according to the programmed antifreeze temperature set
point.
MANUAL OPERATION
Pressing the ' ' button will cause the ' ' symbol to
appear on the display and the timer thermostat will control
the room temperature according to the current comfort
mode for 24 hours.
This means that room temperature is set independently
from the position of the dip switches, according to the
temperature set with the ' + ' and ' - ' buttons.
To revert to operation according to the set daily program,
press the ' ' button again.
BACKLIT DISPLAY
The display lights up any time a button is pressed. The back
light automatically goes off 20 seconds after the last button
was pressed.
TIME / TEMPERATURE INDICATION
By pressing the ' ' button you can display in turns the
current time or the room temperature read by the device,
corrected by the set Offset value.
NB: To maximise battery life, the timer thermostat
measures the room temperature every 3 minutes and
decides whether to activate or deactivate the relay.
REPLACING THE BATTERIES
The display constantly shows the battery charge status by
means of the' ' symbol.
Batteries are fully charged if all three battery level indicators
are lit up.
If the symbol is completely empty and ' ' flashes, it
means the batteries are low and need replacing.
To change the batteries proceed as follows:
•
Extract the timer thermostat body by pulling the tab.
•
Remove the battery compartment cover below the timer
thermostat body (see Fig. 1) making leverage with a
screwdriver in the slots.
•
Extract the batteries, using a tool to make leverage.
•
Insert the new batteries. They must be 1.5V AA alkaline
batteries.
•
If necessary reset the device by means of the button as
indicated in Fig. 1.
•
Check that the time setting is correct, reprogram the time
if necessary.
